About Katherine Dederer, MD
Katherine Dederer, MD is an orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon. As the daughter of an engineer and carpenter, Dr. Dederer grew up around woodworking and learned to work with her hands at an early age. It was the mechanical nature of orthopedics that primarily attracted her to the medical field.
Dr. Dederer received her medical degree from the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. She went on to complete her orthopedic surgical residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. She then completed her foot and ankle fellowship at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, training with nationally-recognized experts in advanced surgical techniques including minimally-invasive bunion surgery and total ankle replacement.
Dr. Dederer is trained in both traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques, offering patients a range of treatment options in foot and ankle care. She not only brings clinical expertise to her practice, but also an athletic history.
During her undergraduate years, Dr. Dederer was a collegiate skier, competing in slalom and giant slalom. That experience has allowed her to develop a unique perspective when it comes to caring for patients with athletic injuries and returning them to the activities they love.
Outside of the office, Dr. Dederer still loves skiing the slopes. She also enjoys hiking, running, cooking and traveling.
