Programs in radiologic sciences at CommonSpirit Health start each fall semester and students work continuously for almost two years. The curriculum in the program requires a high degree of stamina, dedication and motivation. A healthy lifestyle with intellectual and emotional maturity is a necessity for success throughout the program.
Students apply skills to actual patient examinations in the clinical environment during clinical practicum courses throughout the program. Students are scheduled up to 35 hours each week in the classroom, clinical experience, or both, with some weekend, evening, night, and holiday rotations required throughout the duration of the program. Students are assigned to clinical rotations at St. Anthony Hospital and St. Anthony North Hospital throughout the two-year program in radiography. During the last year of the radiography program, students are offered clinical exposure to advanced modalities of their choice including CAT Scan, Interventional Radiology, Cardiovascular Lab, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology and Ultrasound.
A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the program, and the student is then eligible to sit for the national registry examination in radiography, administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. In addition, the CommonSpirit Health program maintains an articulation agreement with Red Rocks Community College, which offers students enrolled in our program the opportunity to earn college credits towards completion of an Associates of Applied Science Degree through the community college. This is a unique offering made by our program as we look to the minimum requirements to enter into the Imaging profession being elevated to an Associate’s degree beginning in 2015.
The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) under the United States Department of Education, designed the didactic and clinical curriculum to provide students with the best possible education to become a registered radiographer. The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) recognizes the program and it is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
