(DENVER, COLO.) May 6th marks National Nurses Day, the start of National Nurses Week which culminates on May 12th, the historical birthday of Florence Nightingale. Nightingale, who was born in 1820, is considered the founder of modern nursing.
“I would like to acknowledge the amazing clinical staff of Longmont United Hospital,” said Mary Hillard, Chief Nursing Officer at Longmont United Hospital (LUH). “During this unprecedented pandemic, the nursing staff at our hospital continues to deliver high quality care under extreme and extraordinary conditions. Longmont nurses always rise to the occasion and provide care with grace and dignity and this pandemic proved no differently.”
With many smiles covered by masks, thumbs-up and arms raised were the preferred methods to celebrate National Nurses Day and kick off Nurses Week at LUH. Typically, Nurses Week is recognized with celebratory gatherings, hospital meals and awards – all of which have been modified or postponed given the ongoing COVID-19 precautionary measures.
Earlier today, LUH posted a Facebook collage of nurses celebrating Nurses Day.
“I could not be prouder of our nurses and we will celebrate their commitment and courage more traditionally once we know it is safe to gather with our colleagues and community,” added Hillard. “I am especially grateful for the Longmont community for their generous support of our team at Longmont United Hospital. The outpouring of food and donations has helped keep our hearts full during this challenging time.”
