(LAKEWOOD, COLO.) Centura Health - St. Anthony Hospital, the region’s leading Level I Trauma Center, is on a mission not just to care for the sickest and most critically injured patients when they’re admitted to the hospital, but to provide resources for survivors of traumatic injuries well after their recovery process has begun. Recently, St. Anthony Hospital began offering a Life After Trauma Support group in conjunction with the Trauma Survivors Network for patients and their families who have overcome a serious traumatic injury. The next installment of the Life After Trauma group is scheduled for Monday, June 3 from 4 – 5 p.m. in St. Anthony Hospital’s Reflection Room.
The meeting features Guest Speaker Mark Lafleur, MA, LPC, who will detail the role of therapy and counseling in responding to trauma. The group, which meets monthly aims to help trauma survivors rebuild confidence and capability by connecting these individuals and their families with others who have undergone similar experiences, allows them to meet trauma experts who can explain injuries and their physical and emotional effects, provides them with information to help survivors meet the challenges of everyday life following injury and offers them opportunities to give hope and inspiration to others through their unique perspectives.
The Trauma Survivors Network is a community of patients and survivors looking to connect with each other to rebuild their lives after a serious injury. The underlying goal of the network is to provide resources and programs to ensure the victims of trauma and their families are able to stably recover and to share their stories on their road to holistic, physical and emotional healing. In addition to group meetings, as part of the Trauma Survivors Network, St. Anthony Hospital offers trauma patients and their families with comprehensive resources including: access to an online community that connects them with those who share similar experiences, a Patient and Family Handbook, a guide to trauma center care and what to expect in the hours and days after an injury, The Traumapedia, an online resource with information from leading experts in trauma care and rehabilitation and many other tools.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Those interested can simply join the meeting. For questions, or to become a member of the Trauma Survivors Network, contact Laura Harwood, (720)321-0612 or [email protected]. You can learn more at https://www.traumasurvivorsnetwork.org/trauma_centers/100.
