About James Smith, MD

James Smith, MD, has over three decades of experience practicing medicine, and joined the CommonSpirit - St. Elizabeth Hospital team in 2021. Dr. Smith and his wife chose Fort Morgan because of the friendly atmosphere, and Dr. Smith is passionate about providing medical care to members of our community, close to home. Dr. Smith performs a variety of procedures, including colonoscopies and surgical treatment of skin lesions and non-healing wounds.

Dr. Smith attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana for his undergraduate studies. He then went on to medical school at Texas Tech School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas. He completed a categorical surgical internship and general surgery residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas.

Dr. Smith is an active member of the US Army Reserve Medical Corps and has been for more than 10 years. As part of his service, he has been deployed to Afghanistan and Honduras. He also enjoys providing medical care and surgeries in underdeveloped countries. He has traveled to Haiti and other countries on humanitarian relief medical missions.
