At Centura Health, we know that one of the best ways to accomplish our mission-driven goals is to empower others who are dedicated to the same outcome. That’s why we were honored to fund the work of Colorado’s GrowHaus and Valley Roots Food Hub through the Hunger Action Pro Rodeo at this year’s National Western Stock Show.
As the presenting sponsor of the National Western Stock Show, Centura welcomed the opportunity to collaborate on a deeper level with two organizations already making a real impact on ending food insecurity across communities we serve in Colorado, Utah and western Kansas. These partnerships only enhance our 141-year legacy of healing and commitment to creating flourishing communities.
National Western and Centura came together to create the Hunger Action Rodeo — a powerful platform to educate and call to action — to recognize and combat local and regional food security challenges and help raise awareness and solutions to those experiencing hunger every day.
GrowHaus & Valley Roots
Among record-breaking crowds, Peter D. Banko, President and CEO of Centura Health, along with Paul Andrews, President and CEO of the National Western Stock Show, presented these two organizations with a $10,000 donation check:
- Denver-based GrowHaus cultivates community-driven food justice through education and food access. It offers food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. What’s GrowHaus’ ultimate measure of success? When the children, families, and communities it works with are empowered to feed, nourish and strengthen themselves and one another.

Valley Roots Food Hub, based in Alamosa, is on a mission to build, operate and sustain a local food system that increases the demand for — and accessibility to — fresh, health food. The hub represents over 100 Colorado food producers, including produce, meat, poultry, fish, value-added and dairy. Strategic partnerships span the state: from Durango to Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo, and from Alamosa to Leadville, where it operates a just-in-time fresh produce-based aggregation and delivery system for wholesale customers as well as a direct-to-household CSA program.
Furthering the work of these meaningful programs is part of a collaborative mission: Centura and National Western work year-round to ensure that every community, every neighborhood and every life can be whole and healthy.
