Program Summary:
Avista Adventist Hospital and St. Anthony North Health Campus are partnering to offer a one-year fellowship in maternal-child health.
This program focuses on training.
Throughout the year, fellows will spend time in three major areas:
Avista Adventist Hospital Labor and Delivery Deck
- Fellows will focus on managing laboring patients, performing c-sections and tubal ligations. The fellows work primarily with Clinica Campesina patients, a federally qualified health center with a majority Spanish speaking population. Fellows work under the direct supervision of obstetrics (OB) attendings and spend time as an independent provider with on-call OB support.
St. Anthony North Health Campus
- Fellows will focus on taking part in a high-risk OB/GYN clinic performing many procedures, including c-sections, surgeries (abdominal hysterectomy, D&C, LEEP, cold knife cone), and neonatal resuscitation. Fellows will also work on-call as the attending for medicine/OB service.
Other experiences
- Attending the medicine/OB service supervising residents (five weeks per year).
- Neonatal resuscitation training at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, including intubation experience with pediatric anesthesiology.
- Continuity clinic two to three half days per week, with a mix of prenatal, women’s health, and full spectrum family medicine patients.
- Longitudinal one to two meetings per month to review cases, journal articles and assigned reading.
- Rotating with maternal fetal medicine one to two days per month.
- Attending the AAFP Maternal Care Conference.
- In-hospital calls are approximately one night per week and two weekends per month. Home “c-section call” is approximately Q2, although this is flexible based on the fellow’s c-section numbers.
