Christine McSweeney leads Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley and Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley as Chief Executive Officer. Christine is devoted to leading our ministries with kindness and collaboration, while serving our communities with excellence and compassion.
With more than 25 years of health care leadership experience, Christine has served CommonSpirit Health since 2019. Before joining the Holy Cross hospitals in Utah, she was interim Chief Executive Officer as well as Chief Operating Officer at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO. Previously, she served as Group Vice President of Operations & Shared Services for nine hospitals in Colorado and Kansas. Prior to joining CommonSpirit, Christine held leadership roles at Banner Health and Banner University Medicine Division for 20 years.
Christine works to inspire her teams to thrive and improve every day in service to our patients and communities, and she loves to see great ideas put into action.
Christine earned her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of Wisconsin, her MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business. She has been a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives since 2010.
Martha Gamble serves as the Chief Nursing Officer at Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley, supporting frontline nursing staff in providing excellent patient care. With more than 20 years of nursing experience, she is honored to contribute to a community that mirrors the values she holds dear: integrity, compassion, and a commitment to excellence in health care.
Martha is a first-generation American born to Greek immigrants. Her parents instilled values of work ethic, kindness, and sacrifice. Joining the Army provided Martha with her first comprehensive dental screening and underscored the stark contrast in oral health standards beyond basic care. These experiences fueled her passion for equitable health care access for all.
Today, West Valley City resonates with Martha for its hardworking families, strong community bonds, and shared values of striving for a better future for their children.
While healthcare has made strides in cultural competency and accessibility, there's still much work to be done. Martha is proud to lead initiatives at Holy Cross Hospital - West Valley that champion health care that respects and serves diverse cultural needs. Her parents’ legacy drives her to ensure that every patient, regardless of background, receives compassionate and culturally competent care.
Rebecca Vogel, MD, serves as Interim Chief Medical Officer for the Greater Salt Lake Market, including the five Holy Cross hospitals along the Wasatch Front. Dr. Vogel is responsible for managing the hospitals’ clinical operations, liaising between the administration and clinical care providers, and ensuring our patients receive the highest quality of medical care.
Previously, Dr. Vogel served as Executive Medical Director for Physician Residencies and led graduate medical education for the Mountain Region. She was the first female chief of staff at CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO, and is a previous winner of Physician of the Year.
Patient safety and quality are Dr. Vogel’s passions, and she firmly believes in delivering the same level of excellence for our patients that our providers would expect for their own families.
Dr. Vogel earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Colorado and a bachelor’s degree from Yale University. She is on track to graduate with her MBA in the Fall of 2024 from the Kelley School of Business.
Derek Lau is the Chief Financial Officer serving Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley, Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley, and Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point. Responsible for providing strategic leadership in finance, including stewardship and growth initiatives, Derek has served the CommonSpirit Holy Cross hospitals for nearly a decade. He was part of the team responsible for building Holy Cross Hospital - Mountain Point in 2015. He is motivated by the opportunity to help further CommonSpirit's mission in the Greater Salt Lake market.
A licensed CPA and Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP), Derek was an accountant with Arthur Andersen early in his career, auditing hospitals and other non-profit entities throughout the southwest. He later spent 12 years at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Arizona as a controller.
Derek earned his Master of Accountancy from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from DeVry Institute of Technology.

CommonSpirit Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley is committed to delivering compassionate care while building healthy communities. Part of that care and compassion comes from our many volunteers, who are the heart and soul of our hospital.
Whether you are welcoming people at our front desk, walking with someone to a testing area, or quietly holding a hand in the ER waiting room, you are always good medicine.

Visitor Information
At Holy Cross Hospital - West Valley we understand that having loved ones nearby can improve healing and help facilitate better care. We welcome families and friends to visit with patients at the hospital.
All visitor information
There are currently no set visiting hours, but some visitation restrictions may apply such as:
- After 6 pm, most doors are locked, and visitors will need to enter through the public emergency department entrance.
- Visitors may be asked to leave a patient’s room during tests and treatments.
- Visitation restrictions may be imposed by the hospital if clinically necessary or needed to ensure safe care of patients.
The hospital provides plenty of spacious and comfortable lobbies and family waiting areas. The surgery family waiting area is near the JV Café, which provides refreshments. Vending machines offering a range of snack foods and beverages are located in all other family waiting areas. Wireless internet access is available throughout the hospital including family waiting areas, patient rooms and the JV Café.
To protect our patients, families and employees, we kindly ask that visitors follow these important rules when visiting the ICU:
- There is a two-person limit inside ICU patient rooms unless special arrangements have been made with the patient’s nurse. Comfortable waiting areas are provided nearby.
- Due to increased risk of infection, children under the age of 12 may not be allowed to visit; please contact the unit directly before bringing children to the hospital to visit.
- To protect the privacy of our patients, please do not visit in the ICU hallways.
To protect our babies and their loved ones, please follow these rules when visiting the birth center at Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley:
- Mom’s partner/support person is encouraged to stay in their room as needed 24 hours a day.
- Relatives, siblings and friends may visit at the discretion/approval of the patient and medical team.
- Due to patient privacy laws, all visitors are prohibited from congregating in the hallway or near the nurse’s station.
- Rules for children under 12 and sick (or recently sick) adults often vary depending on multiple factors such as season and prevalence of disease within the community. Please contact the department before coming to visit.
Free parking is located near all hospital entrances. Convenient covered pull through areas for patient drop off and pick up are located at the outpatient, inpatient and women’s center entrances.
Located in the outpatient lobby, the JV Café provides a wide range of healthy selections including daily hot entrees, a salad bar, grill and desserts.
Monday - Friday:
- Breakfast: 7 am to 10 am
- Lunch: 11 am to 2 pm
- Dinner 2 pm to 7 pm
Saturday - Sunday:
- All meals: 7 am to 7 pm
Please ask staff for any assistance you may need with meals.
The chapel inside Holy Cross Hospital - West Valley is located near the women’s center entrance on the first floor. Patients and their families are welcome to visit the chapel anytime.
