At the Birth Center at St. Anthony North Hospital, we believe in family-centered care and providing home-like comfort with the most advanced medical care available — including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Our birth center specialists strive to provide a comfortable experience for our moms and families, providing the highest level of care, comfort and confidence. Each of our 15 birthing suites are private, spacious and feature comforting amenities for you and all members of your support system. We also have a Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for babies who are born prematurely or need more specialized care upon their arrival. Our Level II NICU is staffed 24/7 with physicians and providers for your baby’s care and your peace of mind.

Our Services
The Birth Center at St. Anthony North Hospital is designed to keep you and your baby close. Once you have delivered, your baby will be with you, in your room, during your entire stay. Our highly trained nurses will support, guide and help you learn to care for your newborn while following your preferences and respecting your wishes.
No matter what type of comfort measures you choose, a team of skilled in-house certified nurse anesthetists are available around-the-clock for immediate pain management.
Our physicians, anesthesia providers, nurses and respiratory therapists are in the hospital 24 hours a day to provide neonatal resuscitations and stabilization to infants needing advanced medical care. Our caregivers are trained and ready to provide care for premature infants, as well as full-term babies who made need extra attention.
Our Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) offers extensive care for infants needing heightened monitoring or treatment beyond what standard hospital nurseries or birthing centers can provide.
Birth center amenities
Patients labor, deliver and recover in one of 15 spacious suites. Each suite features mountain views, private baths and other comforts of home. Each room is designed to support new moms. Patients’ partners or other chosen support people are invited to spend the night in the suite and enjoy healthy meals. We encourage the practice of “rooming in,” which means the baby stays with the mother from the time they are born until you are discharged from the hospital.
Our birth center and suites feature:
- Spacious bathtubs, birthing balls and comfortable rocking chairs in each room
- Flat-screen TVs and DVD players in each room
- Free internet access
- Newborn photo packages (optional)
- Family-friendly nearby waiting room, plus two self-serve kitchens with light snacks and microwaves for patients and family members
- State-of-the-art security system to ensure the safety of moms and babies and provide peace of mind
The St. Anthony North Hospital Birth Center provides exceptional care to ensure mom and baby stay safe and healthy with the help of our expert caregivers.
- Epidurals and pain medications are optional and available at the patient's request. Our providers will follow the patient’s lead when it comes to pain management. Certified registered nurse anesthetists provide our patients with the most up-to-date anesthesia support and care, 24 hours a day, working in conjunction with a team of anesthesiologists.
- Nitrous oxide is available upon request to help ease anxiety, aid in relaxation and provide pain relief.
- If a cesarean section (C-section) is necessary, there are two surgical suites in the Birth Center.
- Our Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides special care for infants born as early as 32 weeks gestation and above. The Level II NICU is staffed 24/7.
- Our expert caregivers are available 24/7 to help care for any little one needing specialized care.
We want all moms and babies to begin their journey together with love and support.
- Whenever possible, skin-to-skin contact during the first hour after birth is our standard. Snuggling skin-to-skin increases bonding and provides the best start for breastfeeding.
- We provide lactation consultations to help you during your hospital stay and when you go home. We support moms and babies with lactation consultations up to one year after delivery.
- The Nurse-Family Partnership is a program for women who are having their first baby. If you enroll and are eligible, a specially trained nurse will visit you in your home throughout pregnancy and continue to visit until your baby is 2 years old.
Our certified lactation consultants are here to provide the support you need when you choose to breastfeed your baby — during your hospital stay and beyond.
A complimentary follow up lactation visit will help ensure that all is going well after you leave the hospital. An appointment will be made for you before your discharge, and we support moms and babies with lactation consultations up to one year after delivery.

If you are eligible, we can help enroll you in Colorado’s Medicaid program for prenatal services and hospital coverage.
Level II NICU
Occasionally, babies may need extra care. When you choose to deliver at the Birth Center, you are choosing to deliver your baby where you can feel reassured and supported. Our Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is conveniently located adjacent to our birthing suites, if your newborn requires it.
Our caregivers are specially trained to provide care for premature infants in our Level II NICU, starting at 32 weeks gestation, as well as full-term babies who made need extra support.
While our team will provide the specialized care that your baby needs, you play an important role. We strive to provide the opportunity for as much skin-to-skin contact between you and your baby as possible, helping to soothe you and your little one.
Our Level II NICU features:
- Ability to provide care for babies born at 32 weeks gestation or later
- Ability to stabilize and transport babies born at any age gestation
- 24/7 neonatal nurse practitioner on-site coverage
- 5 NICU beds
- 24/7 neonatologist coverage
- Parents may room-in with baby (when space permits)
- Daily lactation support

Be prepared for your delivery and little one’s arrival by learning about pregnancy, labor, comfort techniques, medical procedures, C-sections and the newborn/postpartum experience. You will also hear birth stories from other new moms.
Available self-paced online or as a three-day in-person learning experience.

Taught by an International board-certified lactation consultant, course topics include benefits of breastfeeding, feeding techniques, breastfeeding and the working mom, how to avoid common problems and more.
For those that may need additional support, we offer our breastfeeding support group free of charge. This class takes place every Thursday in the in Mt. Blue Sky or Longs Peak Conference room. For questions on the group or attendance information, please call 720-627-3647.

Pre-admission program
Our pre-admission program is designed to make your hospital admission relaxed and worry free. A pre-admission appointment gives you the opportunity to talk with an experienced birth center nurse, share your birth preferences and ask questions about your upcoming birth experience. It's ideal to make your pre-admission appointment when you are approximately 31 weeks pregnant. Birth center tours are not included during your appointment.
