About Aaron Black, MD
Dr. Aaron Black is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon fellowship trained and specializing in sports medicine and trauma at CommonSpirit Summit Orthopedics. He prioritizes building strong, personal relationships with his patients, guiding them through every stage of their injury journey — from initial diagnosis and treatment to full recovery and return to peak performance. Dr. Black strives for excellence, focusing on achieving optimal outcomes.
His specialty areas include sports injuries from knee and shoulder. In the knee, he specializes in ACL reconstruction and multi-ligamentous knee surgery; knee joint preservation, including cartilage restoration and osteotomy; meniscus tears; and patellar instability. In the shoulder, he specializes in rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability, shoulder replacements, open shoulder surgery, AC separations, and shoulder fractures.
Dr. Black earned a Bachelor’s in Biology from Colorado College, a Master’s in Medical Sciences from Loyola University in Chicago, and a Medical Degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. His orthopedic surgery residency was at Tufts Combined Orthopedic Residency. His Sports and Ski Trauma Fellowship was at the Taos Orthopedic Institute. Dr. Black is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a U.S. Ski Team physician.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Black enjoys an active lifestyle, including skiing (both inbounds and backcountry), mountain biking, working on cars, and spending time with his dog.
