About Charles Rogers, MD

Charles Rogers, MD, is a board-certified radiation oncologist at Holy Cross Hospital - Jordan Valley Cancer Center whose accomplished career in health care has included service in academic, private, Veterans Administration, and hospital-based group practices. Dr. Rogers’ work has emphasized neurosurgical and neurologic applications of external beam radiation therapy and radiosurgery, brachytherapy in its many applications, and broader scopes of radiation therapy - all in efforts to cure and improve the quality of life for patients with malignant and benign diseases.  

Dr. Rogers received a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and he completed his internship at the Good Samaritan/Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Phoenix. He continued his training in Radiation Oncology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, during which time he served as a clinical fellow of the American Cancer Society. Dr. Rogers is board certified by the American Board of Radiology.

For patients with central nervous system ailments, Dr. Rogers has been involved in guideline development to define the appropriate management of patients with brain metastasis and primary intracranial tumors. He has also lectured and published extensively on the treatment of paraspinous tumors; radiation therapy for ependymoma, meningioma, and acoustic neuroma; and radiosurgery for trigeminal neuralgia. He is the principle investigator of the two large international cooperative group meningioma trials (RTOG-0539 and NRG Oncology BN-003) and, with other dedicated investigators internationally, of a trial of low-dose brain radiotherapy for early Alzheimer’s dementia.

Dr. Rogers’ work with brachytherapy includes the publication of a range of articles from surgery with I-125 seed brachytherapy for paraspinous metastasis, Cesium-131 brachytherapy for CNS tumors, Sr-90 for bone metastasis, pulsed-low-dose-rate brachytherapy for cervix carcinoma, intraperitoneal P-32 for ovarian cancer, and high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy for prostate cancer, for which he has also authored guidelines.

His current active clinical and research interests include international clinical trials to advance treatment for patients with meningioma, low-dose whole lung irradiation for COVID-19 pneumonitis, and low-dose whole brain radiation therapy for Alzheimer’s dementia.

In addition to his clinical practice and academic work, Dr. Rogers has been active in radiation oncology professional organizations, having served on the boards of the American Brachytherapy Society and the American Society for Radiation Oncology. Outside of work, he is a husband, father of four grown sons, a grandfather to four, a published musician and songwriter, a tennis player, and a skier.
