About Leslie Dempsey, MD
Leslie Dempsey, MD, loves shaping the future of family medicine through its next generation of doctors. Her passion is for whole family care, particularly obstetrics. Dr. Dempsey performed cesarean sections for over 10 years and continues to direct the clinic’s routine prenatal care, high-risk prenatal care, obstetric ultrasounds and lactation support.
Originally from a small town in northern New Mexico, Dr. Dempsey wanted to pursue a career in medicine since she was young and planned to be a rural family medicine, “do-it-all” doctor. She received her bachelor’s degree in animal science from Texas Tech University. She also went to paramedic school in Colorado Springs and then received her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Dr. Dempsey completed her residency in Lincoln, NE, and then spent two years serving in a federally funded health clinic in La Junta, CO. There, she had the privilege of providing care to those who most needed it and gaining practical experience and knowledge along the way. Dr. Dempsey also practiced inpatient, outpatient, nursing home/geriatric and obstetric medicine in a rural hospital.
Her time on her parents’ dude-ranch gave Dr. Dempsey an appreciation for hard work and family balance that she strives to maintain today. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her immediate and extended family, hiking, biking, swimming and playing Little League baseball. Dr. Dempsey is looking forward to owning horses again and teaching her family to ride. In the meantime, she enjoys her home zoo of two dogs, two cats, two rabbits, and a fish tank that includes sharks.
