About Matthew Loftspring, MD
Dr. Matthew Loftspring grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and received his bachelor of arts in biology and music from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He completed his PhD (in neuroscience) and MD at the University of Cincinnati. He served as an intern (internal medicine) and resident in Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
After graduating from residency, he joined the faculty at Washington University in St, Louis as Assistant Professor of Neurology. He has co-authored 19 peer-reviewed publications, one book chapter given two invited oral presentations at international neuroscience and neurology conferences. His approach to patient care is that every person should “be heard” and respected as an individual. The plan of care is not “one size fits all,” but rather it is customized. The easiest approach to diagnosis and treatment is not always the best. Dr. Loftspring believes that medication is not the only method of treatment that can be effective.
Although he practices allopathic medicine with a “Western Medicine” approach, he has devoted significant time learning about naturopathic medicine and other alternative medicine techniques that are scientifically supported by evidence. In his free time Dr. Loftspring enjoys spending time with his wife and son, running as well as listening to and writing classical music and jazz
