About Shahbaz Afzal, DO

Shahbaz Afzal, DO, centers his practice on providing comprehensive holistic care and prioritizes prevention, overall health and peak performance. He believes in forming strong provider-patient relationships built on trust and collaboration, ensuring that each patient’s unique needs and goals are met through tailored health plans. Dr. Afzal is passionate about educating patients on preventive measures and supporting their health journeys with evidence-based practices to achieve optimal physical and mental well-being.

Dr. Afzal received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Cameron University in Oklahoma and his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania. He completed his family medicine residency at Rochester Regional Health in New York and his sports medicine fellowship at Allegheny Health Network in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Afzal has provided medical coverage for professional sports teams in Pittsburgh, including Pirates baseball, Riverhounds soccer, Thunderbirds ultimate frisbee and Forge rugby. He has also supported high school teams for track, wrestling and football and worked at a variety of major sporting events, including the 2024 Special Olympics Pennsylvania State Winter Games, Premier Rugby Sevens, Golden Gloves of America, Pittsburgh Great Race, Western Pennsylvania Golf Association junior golf championships, Pittsburgh Pirates baseball spring training and Damar Hamlin’s Chasing M’s Foundation celebrity events.

Outside of work, Dr. Afzal enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing and gardening. He also loves playing board games with family and friends, exploring different food spots, playing video games and traveling to new places.
