Centura Health believes that “care is better where you are.” And St. Anthony North Hospital is truly living that motto. The hospital recently broke ground on a five-story tower, which will add 133,000 square feet of space dedicated to supporting the health care needs of Westminster and surrounding communities.
“Not only has our region grown by leaps and bounds, but more and more people are choosing to entrust us with their care,” explains Dr. Constance Schmidt, CEO of Centura St. Anthony North Hospital. “Our providers, caregivers and leadership have worked extremely hard to earn this trust and provide the highest levels of care. We believe it is our responsibility to continue growing to meet their needs.”
State-of-the-art cancer center
The first floor of the tower will house an advanced cancer center, providing extensive cancer services including medical oncology, radiation oncology and a state-of-the-art infusion center.
“We designed the center to be a ‘one-stop-shop’ for exceptional cancer care, offering all oncology services in an easy-to-access location close to home,” says Dr. Schmidt. “This Center will change how cancer patients receive treatment. Without the need to travel for care, patients can focus their time and energy on healing.”
Care for the sickest patient
The new tower will also include a 26-bed intensive care unit (ICU) which will serve as the hospital’s second ICU, allowing more capacity to care for patients in greatest need. In addition, the tower will incorporate a medical/surgical unit as well as two floors of space that can be finished to meet future needs.
“With this addition, we not only address the current needs of our community, but are also poised for future growth,” explains Dr. Schmidt. “Our hospital has been running at capacity for some time. This expansion will allow us to grow and adapt along with the communities we serve, providing the care they need close to home.”
Advanced services, technology
The tower, which will open in stages beginning August 2024, is the most visible form of growth at St. Anthony North Hospital. However, the hospital has been expanding its services in other ways as well. For example, the hospital now works with six orthopedic groups to bring the full spectrum of orthopedic services to Westminster. Centura Health’s own orthopedic group led by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ian Weber recently opened the Joint Replacement Clinic at the hospital.
St. Anthony North is also adding world-class technology. The hospital recently acquired its first DaVinci surgical robot, expanding robotic surgery options to OB/GYN, urology and general surgery patients. The cardiology department also invested in CARTO, an advanced 3D-imaging system that improves precision and outcomes in cardiac ablation patients.
“By continuing to advance technology we are on the forefront of care. It is one more way we are making this hospital great,” says Dr. Schmidt. “St. Anthony North is more than a hospital. It is personal to me and those who work here. We are proud to serve our community.”
