In the rush of life, sometimes we need to pause and appreciate the love and generosity of others. Those small compliments, quick smiles and, in this case, a thank you note, have a tremendous impact.
I received a letter this month from a retired nurse who spent 24 years working for Mercy in the ICU, Wellness/Cardiac Care and Integrative Care. She returned to Mercy Regional Medical Center for a five-hour spinal surgery with Dr. Douglas Orndorff, Dr. Robert Wrona and Lance Hamlin, PA. Her words of thanks reminded all of us that, even in a pandemic, we are fulfilling our Mission of healing the ill and nurturing the health of the people in our community.
She wrote, “It truly does take a village, to care for each other. I was impressed at how seamlessly everything flowed. I felt safe even in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic!
Preparing for my surgery, I received the holistic “Steps to Surgical Success” from TLC RN, Jessica Dehen. I was on the receiving end of a program that I helped create. What a blessing it was! It was empowering to create my own healing plan and to plan my postoperative home at care. Barb Brazen, RN, came to the recovery room and gave me a shoulder massage and whispered kind words encouraging me to breathe and relax. I was in the hospital for two nights and I received great care.”
The letter goes on to say that our former nurse is doing so well, her husband has decided to have his spine surgery at Mercy this month.
At Mercy, we care deeply about each patient and their whole person care. When we schedule a procedure, it’s not just about fixing an ailment. We take the time to get to know our patients, talk about their hopes and fears and build a recovery plan that takes those needs into account.
We thank each and every one of our patients for placing their trust and their health in our hands. We are blessed and honored to care for this flourishing community.
