About Armen Khachatryan, MD

Armen Khachatryan, MD, has devoted his career to spinal motion preservation technology, specifically to artificial disc replacements. He strives to provide personalized, compassionate care, ensuring each patient receives a tailored treatment plan that meets their needs. Through a multidisciplinary approach, he strives to promote optimal recovery and long-term spinal health, empowering his patients to return to their daily activities with renewed strength and confidence.

Dr. Khachatryan is a firm believer in preserving motion with disc replacement surgery instead of traditional fusion surgery. He was among the first in Utah to implant artificial discs  in the lumbar and cervical spine, establishing The Disc Replacement Center in 2013. This center has continued to further research and education in disc replacement technology and provide an alternative to fusion for patients in Utah and across the globe.

Dr. Khachatryan has  participated in national and international conferences, lecturing and training other spinal surgeons in cervical artificial disc implants. He also hosts both U.S. and international surgeons for surgical observation and hands-on training in the latest techniques in cervical disc arthroplasty.

Dr. Khachatryan received his bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned his medical degree from the Yale University School of Medicine in Connecticut. Dr. Khachatryan completed his orthopedic residency and his spine surgery fellowship at the University of Utah Department of Orthopedics.

Outside of work, Dr. Khachatryan enjoys spending every moment he can with his wife and children. He is an avid golfer, skier and cyclist, having biked across the U.S. twice as well as Iberian Peninsula through Portugal and Spain. Dr. Khachatryan’s lifelong commitment to fitness is the driving force behind the restorative and motion-preserving spinal surgeries that he offers to his patients.
